  • 1 can (15 oz) low-sodium black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 whole wheat buns

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the black beans until mostly smooth with some chunks remaining.
  3. Stir in chopped onion and minced garlic until evenly mixed.
  4. Add cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  5. Fold in breadcrumbs and beaten egg until combined. Adjust with more breadcrumbs if too wet.
  6. Form the mixture into patties and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
