  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually add to the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips gently until evenly distributed in the batter.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. Once cooled, layer one cake on a serving plate, drizzle with caramel sauce, top with whipped cream or frosting of choice, then place the second layer on top.
