  • 3 lbs Russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter; stir in flour until smooth. Gradually add heavy cream and milk, stirring until thickened (about 5 minutes). Mix in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cheddar cheese until melted.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish; pour half of the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; uncover and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
